People are animals

I'm so proud when my home state of Virginia makes it into the news. Like when a school district decides to sell used laptops for $50 and starts a riot. You have got to read the story and check out the pictures - it's so reassuring that all it takes for people to abandon any sense of decency and start throwing people to the ground and hitting each with chairs is the offer of a cheap, 4-year old laptop. Half the people that got one are just going to turn around and sell them on eBay anyway.

I just lost a little more faith in humanity today...

People are so crazy! I remember the Cabbage Patch Kid craze. Some crazy woman went after my mom to get one!

Ok. This is sad. People were actually camping out waiting for this sale & several people were taken to the hospital. Could you see that dialogue?

Doctor: How did this injury happen?

Patient: Well, I set up my tent outside the gate of the Raceway around 2am.

Doctor: You set up your tent?

Patient: Yeah, ya know so I could get a good place in line and all. I brought my camping gear, food, books, a chair. Then *gasp* right before the gates opened around 7:00 people started pushing their way forcefully to the gate. They were animals, just ran over me and my stuff. It was a stampede!

Doctor: Why did you not just get out of their way?

Patient: I needed to buy my $50 Apple iBook so I could update my blog when at home.

Doctor: Ok, looks like you have a broken leg here. We will cast that leg and you'll have to be off of it for about 6 weeks.

Patient: Score! I will have to be off work for 6 weeks and now I can go home and blog all day on my new iBook. That's the best news I could have gotten!

Doctor: *shakes her head* Crazy Bloggers.

Ok. That's all I got for now. Just putting a little story behind the story. ;)

One of the other stories said that a woman standing in line pissed herself so she didn't have to lose her place in line. I would have thought her dignity and self respect were worth more than $50, but I guess not.

They should give guys like us at least one toe tag per year to thin out the population starting with these people.

robb- no shit! a man had to pull his one-year old child out of its stroller before the stroller got trampled. What was that line from The Godfather: "They're animals anyway, so let them lose their souls"

I agree, the world would be a better place if they would let us thin out the herd a little bit.

vixen-

If you look at the pictures and watch the video at timesdispatch.com, I think you'll agree that most of the people doing the pushing and shoving aren't exactly the blogging type. They're more of the people that camp out at Wal-Mart to get the $39 DVD player the day after Thanksgiving...
